Last night I had my first full Jesus concert had Christ the King in Topeka, KS. The first one, I think, is the most challenging, because there is a lot of up front work that needs to be done to get the show together.  And I tend to get nervous when I try to do things that I haven't really done before.

I think that it went quite well. It seemed to be well received, and my fingers did most of the things that they were supposed to do--a couple missed notes here and there, but all and all I was pleased.

Of course, the concerts are never about me, they are about the subject matter--in this case, Jesus Christ. As I was introducing "Voice in the Wilderness" I mentioned that that's really what we are all called to do as Christians; to be like John the Baptist and point the way to Jesus and not to ourselves. I am just the voice, but Jesus is the song!

However, I do strive to be a good instrument. As a son of a carpenter, I'm sure that Jesus understood the importance of having good instruments.  Sometimes it doesn't matter how great of a worker you are, if you don't have the right tools, the job can't get done. Hopefully the job was done in proclaiming the name of Jesus Christ.

My personal favorites from last night (the ones that I really felt good about) were Voice in the Wilderness, Divine Mercy, Not My Will, The Name, and Master of Disguise. I felt that they really went smoothly, and the practice paid off.

I look forward to doing this concert several more times in the coming year.  I have 3 more gigs booked at the moment, with another in the works. Please check the "gig" tab for upcoming concerts.  I'd love to see you at one of the live shows.
